Musa Khawula abandons his bail application

Musa Khawula has abandoned his bail application at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court as he faces charges of hate speech and contravening the Cyber Crimes Act.

The charges stem from alleged defamatory statements he made on his platform, leading to legal action against him. His case has now been postponed to February 18, while a separate bail application is set for February 5 at the Fochville Magistrate’s Court, where he made a brief appearance last week.

The latest charges follow a warrant for his arrest issued two months ago after he allegedly made defamatory claims about businessman Ze Nxumalo, accusing him of cheating on his wife, former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo.

This is not the first time Khawula has found himself in legal trouble.

In July 2023, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for contempt of court after refusing to comply with a defamation ruling obtained by Nozuko Mbalula, the wife of ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula.

The court had barred him from making corruption allegations against her on social media, but he ignored the order, resulting in his imprisonment.

Despite his legal battles, the 32-year-old, who refers to himself as the “Pope of Pop Culture,” continues to spark controversy with his outspoken approach to celebrity gossip.

However, with multiple cases against him, his future in the digital space remains uncertain. The upcoming court proceedings will determine his next steps in what has become an ongoing legal saga.
